If you are new to blogging, you are in for a real treat. If you want to make money with blog type websites, you do not have to be a programmer or web master. You don’t have to pay your support person to make every little change on your HTML type site. With a blog, you can quickly learn how to do this all by yourself. It will give you an independence that you would probably never have with a standard website. I will cover some of the key ways to make money with blog type websites. Here are my top tips:
1. Get a WordPress blog up to start — You want to take advantage of all the capabilities a blog type website offers you. You do not want to settle for a free blog. This is putting too much risk on your business, as you are not truly the blog owner. You are “visiting” on the sites hosting, and the owner can “give you the boot” for any reason they come up with. This can kill off months of your hard work, and you really have no recourse. You want to get a domain, a small hosting account and get your own WordPress blog up from the beginning. This is simply a prudent business decision and in one you need to make right away.
2. Worry about your content, not your looks — I have seen a lot of my clients worry way too much about what their blog looks like in the early days of it’s existence. You need to focus 100% of your early energy on getting posts up and getting back links to these posts. You do not need to worry about what your blog looks like. There will be very few people looking at it for several weeks to come. This is hard for a lot of newbie bloggers to swallow, but it is the truth. You need to focus your efforts on what is going to move you forward towards making some money with your blog. Trust me, this is not the time to worry about what kind of WordPress theme you have on your blog.
3. Get 10 blog posts up very quickly — You will want to write up 10 very solid “foundation posts” that will be the backbone of your blog. You want these posts to be very solid and about known problems in your chosen niche. These posts will form the foundation for the rest of your blogging. You will refer and link to these articles often in future posts, so make sure they are “meaty” and on topic. Once you get these 10 posts up on your blog, you will have something to work with.
4. Get 50 back links to those 10 posts — Once you get these 10 foundation posts in place on your blog, the next step is to get some quality back links to each of these post pages. You want to put 5 back links to each post page and you want your best keywords to be in the anchor text. This will allow each of these internal pages to be “found’ by the search engines. This will begin the ranking process for each of these pages. Google ranks pages not domains, so you need to treat each post page as an individual entity. Once you get this figured out, it will really help you get your pages ranking well for their specific keywords or phrases.
5. Focus you efforts on helping your new readers solve their niche related problems — Now that you have your baseline structure in place, you just keep posting and back linking to the posts. You want to shift your focus from structure to content as you see how you can help your readers solve their lingering problems in your niche. The better you get at helping your readers with their problems, the more income you will see. You now have a process that will work for you. You simply have to do enough of it to get good traffic and start to make some sales of products you recommend in your posts.
You now know how to make money with blog type websites. You do not have to mess with coding or paying your web master to build your site. You do all that work yourself, and you can easily make adjustments along the way. Stay committed to your blog, and you will see some good income in a few short months.
