How To Make Money Blogging On A Shoestring

Many of my students are tight for funds.  It is a reality of the poor economy and job outlook.  People do not have a lot of money to spend on their home based business.  Many people tell me very directly, “I need to make money, not spend money”.  I can understand this and relate to it very well.  The key to working through this dilemma is understanding how to make money blogging on a shoestring.  You can indeed make money without spending a lot of it along the way.  It can happen, but you need to follow a rational process that gives you a good chance for success.  Here are my best ideas on how to make money with a blog without spending a lot of money:

1.  Truly Understand The Problems In Your Chosen Niche —  If you are really “tuned in” to the problems your readers are encountering, you can become a “solution provider”.  You can find out these problems by doing focused research online.  You can do this for free.  All it requires is your time.  The better you get at doing this research, the more money you will make.  It is a pretty simple concept, but will require you to become a strong researcher in your chosen niche.

2.  Devise Realistic Solutions For These Key Problems —  Once you understand the “root cause” of the problems you are uncovering, you need to come up with realistic solutions to the problems.  If you have experienced these problems, that can help a great deal.  If you have not experienced the problems, you need to do more research online.  Once you have a problem and a proposed solution identified, you are well on your way to some income.  These solutions need to be real and make sense to your readers.  Take a few minutes and analyze what you are proposing.  Make sure it is realistic and will come across well to your readers.

3.  Provide “Real” Products For Your Readers That Solve Their Problems —  This is where the process can get a little more tricky.  You need to find good solid products that will really help your readers.  You need to then share these products with your readers in a way that is helpful and not at all “salesy”.  This is a critical item for your success.  What you recommend needs to make sense and needs to fit well with the demographics of your list.  The better you know the people on your list, the better you will do here.

4.  Write Superb And Focused Product Reviews On Recommended Products —  You are going to have to hit a home run here.  Your review of the product needs to be genuine and accurate.  You need to cover the good point and bad points of how the product can help your readers solve their particular problems.  It must be in your words and your voice.  You do not want to rehash what someone else has already said about the product.  You want to do a great review that serves as a “pre-sell” that tightly ties the product to helping your readers.  Once you master this approach, you will have happier readers and you will start to see an income.

5.  Write A Campaign Of Posts That Will Let Your Readers Know How The Product Works —  This is where a lot of people fall short in their “pre-sell” process.  You need to touch on the problems, the need for a solution and the fact that you have one several times on your blog.  Once again this doesn’t cost you anything but your time.  This “series” approach to your sharing of the product will give your readers multiple “touches” with the product.  This is very vital to your success.  Once your readers see you are serious about this product, they will get serious about taking a look at it.

When you provide strong, well thought out posts about the products, you are really helping your readers.  When  you can make a strong linkage of how the product can help that particular reader with their problems, you will capture their attention.  When you can get good at marrying your product (solution) to your reader (problem) you will start to make some money blogging.  This process requires work, but can be done easily on a shoestring budget.
